THEY’D NEVER TALK TO THEIR PLUMBER THAT WAY

Isn’t it horribly ironic that the know-nothing brigades who claim that climate scientists are taking down to them would never accept a plumber who didn’t know a wrench from a hole in the wall, or step onto a plane piloted by a tabula rasa who’d never gone to flight school?

Btw, the next time a Republican member of Congress calls someone an “elitist,” ask the Rep. or Sen. what school his or her children attend and hw much his/her home is worth.

TOM COTTON IS VERY FRUSTRATED

No war yet with Iran.

So he and that dilapidated DitzKrieg Marsha Blackburn are agitating in the Senate for hostilities against China.

It would get them off and it would be yet another tactical deflection from Trump’s genocidal promotion of corona virus.

A LONG TIME COMING

The 1960s backfired:

the celebration of the self’s potentials turned into blinkered narcissism and narrowly focused expansion.

As Suzi Gablik wrote in 1985: “Our one common belief at this point seems to be that no one can be made accountable: any form of limitation is experienced as a prison.”

Now, self-actualization and freedom is construed as the right to fatally infect our national population so long as we never have to experience a moment’s inconvenience via mask, distancing, et. al.

While civil rights and economic autonomy are surrendered without a second thought.

PALIN AS PRECURSOR

David Neiwert on Twitter describes Sarah Palin as “in many ways was the key figure in the transformation of the Republican Party into the know-nothing, anti-science, conspiracy-theory-loving, cultishly authoritarian Party of Trump it is today.”

IS THIS POIGNANT OR IN SOME WAY ENCOURAGING?

During a family reunion at Lake Tahoe in 1992, my mother’s aunt Mary, then eighty-five, said, “I used to feel I hoped I lived long enough to see how things turned out. Now I’m not sure. In college we thought there was going to be this wonderful world. All men would be brothers. We were sure it was coming.”

It’s poignant because the Depressions and World War II were coming. But somehow
inspiring because that idealism and optimism–if applied concretely–can work wonders.

Mary herself was an amazing person. At eighty-five,she was more than able to keep up with us on our family hikes and treks around the lake.

Married to Frederick Funkhouser, viola player in the Cleveland Orchestra under its first six conductors, she learned Russian prior to touring with the Orchestra when it visited the Soviet Union in 1965.

TURN OVER A STONE AND THERE’S KARL ROVE

Sheathed in slime, Karl Rove re-emerges to do what he does best: defiantly plant a counter-factual narrative.

Trump as victim: could anything be more Rovian?

THINLY VEILED DOESN’T CUT IT, MR. OBAMA

Until Obama can bring himself to call out Trump and the GOP by name, his value to the resistance is peripheral.
