“FISCAL HAWK” MULVANEY DOESN’T PAY BACK HIS LOANS

and spent years working for his Dad (Mick’s the self-made, bootstrap type) in his scandal-plagued real-estate business.

Then he hooked his talons into the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, shredding their protections for victims of financial fraud.

He’s perfect, then, to lead the Dep’t of Commerce, right?

Bess Levin at Vanity Fair reminds us that “Constantly looking for a new government agency to destroy is kind of Mulvaney’s thing.”

“ENFORCEMENT”

Last month, Grace Ashford in the Times reported on the extremely lax and lenient approach that NYC agencies have taken toward hideous abuse by NYC landlords.

The irony is that it is primarily rent-regulated tenants who dare complain about intolerable conditions–they are the only ones who have legal protection ensuring them a lease renewal and regulated rent increases.

If NYC is to survive, we need a Renters’ Revolt.

TRUMP vs. HUMANITY

Andy Rowell at Oil Change International:

“The numbers do not lie: Trump is killing his voters. Trump is making our kids sick. Trump is killing the planet, at the same time as giving his polluting friends in the fossil fuel industry billions of dollars in handouts.”

Trump represents the ultimate in a species-wide death wish that is now manifesting itself so starkly even as millions of young people are increasingly vehement about demanding a future.

MITCH McCONNELL vs. DEMOCRACY

Sen. McConnell knows that he and the GOP can no longer win elections legitimately–they have become too extreme, too subversive to U.S. democracy.

Therefore his squawking and his preposterous Washington Post editorial hissy-fitting about Democrats’ proposals to make American democracy a reality.

GO AHEAD, MR. SCHULTZ, RUN!

Another ludicrously puffed-up oligarch without a clue  about what the overwhelming majority of Americans experience.

How long does anyone think the Starbucks King’s candidacy could stay on its feet when faced with the fusillade of Harris-Warren-Brown-Sanders artillery??

THE STARBUCKS KING

He’s all for standardization, homogenization, pay some benefits but keep salaries scraping rock bottom.

The King insists that our national debt is the reason that we can’t afford social programs, but that wouldn’t have anything to do with the taxes he doesn’t pay, would it?

AMERICANS LEARNING WHAT AMERICA IS

One of the great achievements of the American right wing has been to convince Americans over the past forty years that they are living not in a representative democracy but rather in the Soviet Union or some other totalitarian state where the government rules all.

But in democracies, a governmental state toward which we certainly aspire, citizens can vote to effect policy change. To the degree that our democracy functions, American governance is not simply top down.

The right wing’s attacks on “government” are always ginned up when our government attempts to do anything that  benefits the vast majority of Americans.

The right wing never attacks “government” when Washington, D.C. hands out trillions of dollars in subsidy to the American wealthy.

Perhaps over the past five weeks Americans finally understood that our government is US as well as the U.S., that government workers perform crucial services that  benefit the population and, in fact, keep our democracy going.

And these crucial government workers are not paid very much for their essential contributions to US/U.S.

WE HAVE A PERJURER ON THE SUPREME COURT

Rep. Neguse says he’s going to investigate Brett Kavanaugh’s perjury.

Uh, what’s taken you so long?

And wasn’t Rep. Nadler going to investigate the way that the White House interfered with the FBI’s “investigation” of Kavanaugh?
