IT’S OBVIOUS

Trump hopes to have launched an attack against Iran in time for the midterms.

WHY ISN’T LIZ CHENEY VOLUNTEERING TO BE WATERBOARDED?

Then we’d really know if she still thinks it’s not torture, but just another vanilla Enhanced Interrogation Technique!

Liz is another psychologically obsessed GOP, trying desperately to rehabilitate her father’s shameful legacy.

At any expense to our country or our world, of course.

She’s got her priorities.

INCREDIBLE

that it’s Rand Paul unequivocally opposing Pompeo and Haskel, and not Chuck Schumer.

TRUMP RUSHING US INTO ARMAGEDDON

Richard Silverstein at Middle East Eye warns us that:

“With the accession of figures like Pompeo and Bolton to positions of power in the Trump administration, we face a nightmarish Dr Strangelove scenario. As you may recall, that film ends with an air force officer gleefully riding a nuclear bomb as it drops on its Russian target.”

LIZ CHENEY DOESN’T HAVE A DROP MORE INTEGRITY THAN DICK

Can you believe, well, yes, you can, this unconscionable woman says that a vote against torture doyenne Gina Haspel is a vote for terrorists!

It might as well be 2002 again.

And until the Democrats begin to grow a spine on national defense issues, the Cheneys will prevail.

POMPEO WILL GIVE TRUMP THE WAR HE SO DESPERATELY WANTS

And Sen. Schumer is OK with that.

Unbelievably, even Rex Tillerson seems to have a greater grasp of geopolitical reality than Mike Pompeo. Trump wants Pompeo in as head of State so that he breach the nuclear agreement with Iran and then start a war with Iran.

And Schumer is indicating he will support Pompeo’s appointment.

This is lame Democratic leadership, and it has to change.

THE KOCHS’ TAKEOVER OF AMERICAN DEMOCRACY

Mike Pompeo, Trump’s new State Department plant in his perpetual game of musical secretaryships, is another bought-and-paid-for Koch junkie–and that has terrible implications for our foreign policy.

NRA POODLE DONALD J. TRUMP

Predictably, the gun fanaticism-for-profit freaks bring Trump to heel in just no time at all.

HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?

OK, it’s forty-plus years later,

but I suddenly had a flashback to Gwen Verdon and Chita Rivera singing “My Own Best Friend,” at the end of act one of Chicago.

They grabbed you by the throat and looked as noir as night in identical trench coats.

They sang it like they were riding a reckless, hurtling, self-propelled comet jet.

How/why did the song get so slowed down in present-day renditions?

Today it’s torchy; originally, it was an existential manifesto, kind of primal scream.

POSTSCRIPT:

Now, I know how it happened: Rivera and Verdon on the original cast album aren’t singing it any way near the way they did in the theater!

WISDOM FROM DAVID ROBERTS

who tweets:

“[Bret] Stephens et al are just playing their role in a very old parlor game, where Serious Conservatives tell liberals they are bad and wrong (that’s what ‘intellectual diversity’ means to elite center-lefties) and liberals proceed to engage in self-loathing hand-wringing about it.

. . .

“Virtually the entire political elite & most NYT readers are in denial about what the right has become & that denial is increasingly dangerous.

. . .

“If NYT really wants to expose its readers to the right, it should give Dinesh D’Souza, Dana Loesch, or Ben Shapiro a column. Let readers see, up close & personal, the crude tribalism & resentment that animate the RW base.”
