OPERA HAS ALWAYS BEEN THEATER

Robert Edmund Jones was a great set designer and dramatic theorist who designed for the opera as well as Broadway. His 1941 The Dramatic Imagination: Reflections and Speculations on the Art of the Theatre has many lines worth quoting.  Jones had been going to the theater for decades, and it was his view, citing specifically Emma Calve and Fyodor Chaliapin, “some of the best actors in the world are to be found on the operatic stage.”

NO, CORPORATE MEDIA —

All will not be comity in the Senate tomorrow.

In The Nation, Ari Berman reports on accelerating hostilities now inevitable since “The GOP Has Declared War on Democracy.”

McCONNELL SHOULD BE TRIED FOR TREASON

The GOP’s McConnell-led assault on democracy in America cranks up more than one notch.

And remember, two-faced bullshit-slingers like McCain went along with it. And all those principled GOP “moderates.”

They have succeeded in delegitimizing our Supreme Court.

The GOP owns this, and it must be hung around the neck of every single GOP senator.

SUPREMELY MIRED

E.J. Dionne in the Washington Post reminds us that Chief Injustice Roberts

“went to Florida as a volunteer lawyer advising then-Gov. Jeb Bush, who had a rather large interest in his brother’s victory. Can we please acknowledge that few court nominees are pristinely above politics?. . . .it is the right wing that chose to thrust the court into the middle of electoral politics in an entirely unprecedented and hugely damaging way.”

SINCE WHEN DOES TRUMP CARE ABOUT INNOCENT BABIES?

This is the monster who wants to rip health care away from millions of American families.

But what he does care about is distracting from his scandal-plagued administration, and to that end he may thus very well launch a unilateral attack on Syria, which will be disastrous.

WHAT LANGUAGE DOES BANNON SPEAK?

What world does he inhabit?

Thrown off the National Security Council, he lashes out at GOP scapegoat Susan Rice for “operationalizing” the NSC.

Huh?

I’ve looked up the word and still see no relevance or logic to Bannon’s latest ouburst.

WHY, INDEED?

Do “mainstream” media “pundits” continue to insist that the GOP would allow the Dems to filibuster the next Supreme Court nominee?

& to insist that red-state Dems are endangering their re-elections by standing up for the rights of citizens and thus rejecting Gorsuch?
