FUNNY AND RIGHT ON

Bill Moyers and Bernard Weisberger at commondreams:

“Obama often has treated Democrats in Congress as if they’ve been quarantined for Ebola; they’re more likely to get into the White House if they dress up on Halloween as Republicans and go trick-or-treating at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.”

LITERACY FOR ALL vs. CONDOS FOR THE WEALTHY

It’s not just the hospitals and lovely old low-rise buildings being mowed down for condos, it’s libraries as well.

SPEAK OUT
at the Metrotech Center in Brooklyn on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.

before the Uniform Land Use Review (ULURP) Hearing

re: the awful idea of selling and demolishing the Brooklyn Heights Tillary and the Clinton Library so that more luxury condos can be built.

KIND OF KINKY

As if I don’t have enough scribbling to do at the moment —

Just looking at the ms of a novel I wrote but not totally finished based partly on the experiences of a dancer friend of mine.

Something poignant about this and so true:

A trick he had wanted him to dance for him. . .

“He said I reminded him of Brahms and he asked me to do something Brahmsian. But I just wanted to have sex; I didn’t want to dance.”

Of course it makes perfect sense in a way. That’s something else you did with your body onstage; now you’re into a totally different modality. Yet on the other hand you can combine them for an intensely freighted “performance.”

But this man was so compartmentalized anyway…

DYSTOPIA AMERICA

One of the most appalling things about the right wing’s attack on economic mobility and a democratic society is the assault on public education. And Scott Walker’s made Wisconsin ground zero for that, as for so much other degradation of what has made this country great. Writing for Daily Kos, Wisconsin dad Marc E. Andersen describes how “Wisconsin Schools are Dying of a Thousand Little Cuts.”

WE’RE UP AND BUZZING

The Barre Flies review Ratmansky’s Sleeping Beauty at ABT. Read, then see one or all of the final three performances of the run, tonight, t’row and t’row night. And make up your own mind! Or, better still, see it and mull for a while–no rash conclusions will do.
I’m seeing it again this weekend, my third Beauty of the season.

GO AWAY

With Democrats like these, who needs the other side?

As Jonathan Tasini writes on his Working Life blog, Wasserman Schultz must now resign as Party chair.

DELUDED OR COMPLETELY DISHONEST?

That’s the question where Obama is concerned.

From Associated Press via Talkingpointsmemo, reporting on the Presidents final pep talk re: the monstrous TPP boondoggle: “Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee, said Obama had told Democrats that ‘his whole philosophy, life, everything he’s done has been to help people. And he thinks he’s doing that with this trade agreement.'”

How dumb does he think his caucus is?

I’m in the country and it’s so sunny that I can hardly see the movie I’m watching on youtube because of the glare on my laptop screen!
