Happened to be flipping through the April 1, 1939 issue of Stage magazine,
given to me in 1992 by Florence Williams, who played Alexandra Giddens in the original cast of The Little Foxes.
Stage had gone up to Boston to catch the tryout of Skylark, about which we were just blogging via the recollections of Glenn Anders.
The unsigned reviewer describes Lawrence:
“No actress of light comedy in the theatre can do so much with a simple phrase such as ‘Please pass the butter.’ You have to watch her every second; you are almost afraid to go out for a smoke between acts; you might miss something.”
