Plans are afoot to build a new hotel right next to the nineteenth-century, immaculately preserved home on East 4th Street. Construction of the hotel tower will, in all probability, cause the old home to collapse.
Attend this hearing and speak out against another outrageous vandalism of NYC’s architectural heritage. Let me tell you, it stinks in so many ways.

As the Merchant’s web site informs us, it is “New York City’s only family home preserved intact, inside and out, from the 19th century. . . If the Merchant’s House – Manhattan’s first designated landmark in 1965 – can’t be protected, NO New York City landmark will be safe from out-of-control private development.”
