THE SCRINIVASAN SCHOOL OF “PRESERVATION”

Last year, a vast coalition of civic and state politcos requested expansion of the Madison Square Park North historic district. Urban devastation going on in its surrounding blocks is carrying away one unprotected historic building after another.

Then-LPC chair Scrinivasan wasted no time swatting away earlier requests that this extremely historic area be preserved, thus allowing it to be further degraded as building after building has gone down.

Now her disreputable reign is over. We wait to see whether de Blasio will propose a director who is actually qualified and committed to upholding the LPC’s mission. And we wait to see whether LPC will finally receive adequate funding.

And we wait to see whether LPC will do right by what remains standing in these blocks that were once the nerve center of fashionable New York City.
