Balanchine was furious when she left NYCB to get married in 1950.
She was younger than I am now when I interviewed her in 1983; she seemed like a senior historical figure. Not that she was monolithic in any way–she was delightful.
She was one of the last survivors of Ballet Society and early NYCB.
