WIDENING GYRE

Amazon’s rout was, I think, one of the early manifestations of the campaign to take back this city that has been launched by the citizens of this city, who have been ripped off for so long by the city using public funds to subsidize private wealth–and ensuring that that wealth goes untaxed.

In no sector has the NYC population been more fleeced than with  housing. In 2017’s How to Kill a City: Gentrification, Inequality, and the Fight for the  Neighborhood, Peter Moscowitz [under 30, no less] describes the way that “Entire neighborhoods are becoming stash pads for the global elite who see real estate as a safer investment than the stock market. . .Absentee home ownership has grown by 70 percent in Manhattan since 2000.”

And, excuse me, didn’t a certain megalomaniacal mayor who keeps threatening to run for president become mayor in 2002?
