The chronically-underfunded Landmarks Preservation Commission is now being disabled and held hostage by Mayor de Blasio. We see on a daily basis historic nineteenth-century buildings being demolished to make way for more condo and office towers that service the Tech industry and the international investment community but do nothing to benefit New Yorkers. And LPC sits on its hands, denying designation application after application.
I’m writing a letter to NYC Council Speaker Johnson asking that he initiate an investigation into what is going on with LPC–would be interesting to read their email correspondence with the Mayor’s office, no?
