In S.N. Behrman’s “Portrait of Max,” Max Beerbohm is quoted as saying,

“There is no poetry in a straight mirror—just a reproduction of life. But what one sees in a convex mirror is a complete picture, a composition, an intérieur. By miniaturizing, it concentrates and essentializes.”
