I went to a hearing of my Community Planning Board two evenings ago to speak out against a sham hotel permit that the city is offering as a bait-and-switch to pretend it has any attention of regulating developing in the Tech Hub/Union Sq. So. district that was improperly up zoned last year.
Someone from the City Planning Commission was saying that rent-stabilized units aren’t subject to development threats. Someone in the audience asked, what about the new hotel on East 11th Street, for which several buildings of rent-regulation apartments were torn down. The Planning Commission shill said he didn’t know if they were rent-stabilized. I had to interject that, “It’s san empirical fact that they were rent-stabilized.”
The developers’ onslaught over which the Mayor presides will, of course, continue to take aim at rent-regulated buildings.
