I mean, would Ovid have been “allowed” to write or publish the “Heroides” or Bocaccio his “Elegy of Lady Fiammetta” in today’s literary environment, wherein one group or another is presumed to have sole, proprietary control of all literary production that speaks for or aims to chronicle its own experience?
