THEY WANT TO TEAR DOWN THE SITE OF MY THEATRICAL DEBUT

I mean, this time the landlords and developers have gone too far!

But seriously–

the former 13th Street Theater, built as a private house nearly two centuries old, is almost the last nineteenth-century hold out remaining on 13th between Fifth and Sixth Avenues.

Even aside from my brother’s and my joint stage debut more than fifty years ago, it’s a very historic place.

The building is now endangered, and NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission is, of course, declining to extend it landmark designation, but that isn’t stopping the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation.
