The ultimate fate of this horrific upzoning proposal–which will reduce the number of affordable housing units in these neighborhoods–rests, however, with the City Council.
Speaker Johnson should have long ago made clear that Council members do not have to automatically fall in line behind the votes of Council members who represent the districts threatened by upzoning. That might have blunted Council member Rivera’s betrayal of her community and her campaign pledges three years ago, when turncoat Rivera suddenly got on board with De Blasio’s Tech Hub scam.
