“You ever notice that all these Republican governors are in Southern states that somehow fall behind in education and cultural appreciation and humanities? There’s a reason Reagan defunded the NEA. the reason that arts education went out of our schools, ’cause they knew they needed a populist that was raised on NASCAR and football, and not ballet, not humanities. They weren’t going to see Shakespeare. They weren’t taking theater in school, because they want them dumb, because they’re more susceptible to idiots who come along like Trump and De Santis and Governor Abbot and say, “Wave a flag–get a gun–you don’t want those woke people with purple hair coming into your community.” And these people are dying. And these cynical GOP guys–they don’t care. De Santis isn’t losing any sleep on a bunch of rubes dying in the Panhandle from COVID.”
