It’s incredible: This is a country with millions of hungry, of dispossessed, of un- and under-unemployed, as well as millions of working poor.
And strikes against Syria is what the President and his team want to to go to the mat for?
Heaven help us, they’ve got a “broader strategy” brewing as well. Read Andrea Germanos’s report at Commodreams.org.
For it’s incredible the way you can feel from much, if not most of the “mainstream” news media, a palpable desperation to get this country into another war, despite the fact that the public is numb from the two decade-long conflicts in which we are still entrenched.
Once again, as in 2003, McClatchy seems to be something of an exception, daring to mention that “The Obama administration’s public case for attacking Syria is riddled with inconsistencies and hinges mainly on circumstantial evidence, undermining U.S efforts this week to build support at home and abroad for a punitive strike against Bashar Assad’s regime.”
Instructive at this moment would be a look at the 1969 film, Oh! What a Lovely War, which used WWI songs to demonstrate the folly and hypocrisy of WWI–the conflict that probably did more than any other conflict to set the sun on the British empire.
The film lays the whole thing out mercilessly but also entertainingly.
August 1914 seems more and more relevant.
