One good thing about the Hegseth debacle: it might help America finally understand–as it has refused to understand since Vietnam–that being a vet does not automatically qualify you for anything and does not automatically make you good. But it does make you deserving of those veterans’ benefits that the Republicans are constantly trying to kill.
