That was revealed yet again this week when the Council voted to approve Mayor Adams’ atrocious “City of Yes” scam, which is the latest chapter in City Hall’s conspiracy with the development community to remove all restraints on development in this city.
“City of Yes” says No to democracy, further removing local citizen input into NYC development, while it simultaneously wipes away the alredy extremely generous ceiling on the size of new construction. It’s one more nail in NYC’s coffin.
Three members of the Council’s Land Use Committee recognized this scheme for what it is, and voted No, but they were outvoted by a four-vote majority on the Committee. Thus it went to the full Council, sodden with developer campaign contributions.
Next: the developers are coming for Greenwich Village, Village Preservation head Andrew Berman warns us. The upzoning juggernaut that des troys one neighborhood after another will soon be pointed our way.
And remember: none of this has anything to do with building actual affordable housing. The city’s solution to the housing crisis? Build more gargantuan towers as instruments for the international investment community.
