DANCERS BEING LOOKED AT

It was interesting–

the open-air Delacorte theater didn’t afford real wings at the Fall for Dance opening two weeks ago.

Dancing Esplanade, Paul Taylor’s dancers have to make frequent exits and re-entries and while they were waiting remained open to audience inspection.

And so we saw from them, not the usual at-ease, happenstance body language of dancers waiting to go back onstage, but instead, some beautifully composed and noble stances.

But any time performers are in front of an audience they are doing some sort of performing.

Just the way we civilians are as well, engaged in any type of social interaction, no?
