70 degrees is predicted for Sunday, October 20. The true NYC autumn with which I grew up now seems as though it’s irrevocably gone.
If you get outside NYC you can’t miss the rancid smell of leaves decomposing from the once-unseasonal heat.
Will we get temps into the mid-80s the way we did during October 2007?
I remember in 1985, we had beach weather around the third week of September. I guess that qualified as actual Indian summer, and I took advantage of it, but even then it seemed a little strange, although pleasurably so since it was still such a rarity. I also remember a day that October that was so mild that I wore shorts, and that definitely seemed anomalous at the time.
Now we have balmy days way ‘till the official end of what is still, according to the calendar, the autumn season.
