The New York Times’ “news” head Joe Kahn made it clear in 2024 that he didn’t want to cover Trump’s threat to democracy. Former Obama staffer Dan Pfeiffer described the Times in April 2024: “They do not see their job as saving democracy or stopping an authoritarian from taking power.”
“The potential end of democracy isn’t an especially important issue to Kahn,” Mark Frauenfelder of Boing Boing wrote in May, 2024. Interviewed by Ben Smith of Semafor, Kahn said, “It’s our job to cover the full range of issues that people have. . . . At the moment, democracy is one of them. But it’s not the top one. . .”
The Times’ “news”department, in fact, worked frenziedly to ignore the danger posed by Trump and to instead mount a full court press to defame Biden.
