Something very ugly going on: the GOP’s war on working people in this country is now–with a vengeance–seeking to pit the commonweal against anybody with an interest in culture. As Eric Alterman reports in The Nation, Representative Trey Gowdy defamed Obamacare’s liberation of people trapped in jobs they hate but stick with so they can get health insurance. “What the liberals and the Democrats want you to believe is, ‘Well, but you’ll have time to write poetry.’”
Writing poetry, you see, is something BAD. And it’s the people who write poetry or who allow other people to write poetry who are preventing the masses of unemployed from getting jobs.
Yeah, right.
