Gov. Sherrill has signed New Jersey up to the nuclear energy doomsday pact, reversing a fifty year moratorium on building deadly new nuclear power plants in her state (I wonder why that moratorium was enacted?)
The Democrats’ energy agenda is a lot better than the Republicans–they promote renewable green energy and they recognize the threat of global warming–but it’s still a disaster. The fact that they have allowed nuclear power lobbyists to persuade them to turn a blind eye to the dangers of the technology demonstrates their fundamental lack of judgment. They place their trust in oligarchs–like the chronically under-informed nuclear power shill Bill Gates–and lobbyists over experts. They have so degraded themselves that we watch in disbelief as Sen. Schatz tells us that nuclear power is “cheap.” This about the most expensive energy technology that produces waste that must be guarded from the public for thousands of years.
Now, Gov. Sherrill has capitulated to this fatal idiocy and she hasn’t been honest about what’s gone down. This law was rushed through the NJ legislature. She has appointed a paid nuclear power lobbyist to her Nuclear Task Force. A complete betrayal of the public interest, public health, public trust. Gov. Sherrill is compromised.
If the public were informed about the risks of nuclear power they would overwhelming turn against it. The corporate media, however, sees to it that they are kept a state of perpetual ignorance–as much by what they don’t cover as by what they do.
