“Day after day, we are told that the American people only care about rising prices, jobs and the economy. They occasionally sprinkle in suggestions that the public is worried about healthcare and the situation in the Middle East. But a full-throated discussion of the threat Trump poses to democracy itself is largely off the table.
“This failure is particularly striking because it is unique to the United States. Legacy media has no similar difficulty covering democratic backsliding in Hungary, Poland or Turkey.
“When citizens in those countries protest the erosion of judicial independence or the concentration of executive power, the media coverage is clear and direct. Yet, when it takes place in our own backyard, it immediately becomes a story about ‘partisan disagreement’ or ‘differing views on executive power.'”
They’re basically doing exactly what they did in 2023-24, when they got Trump reelected.
