Of course, Pres. Biden made many mistakes. But Garland ensured there would be no accountability for the senior planners of Trump’s January 6 coup attempt. No accountability for Trump himself, who is the greatest traitor in the history of this country.
Garland’s prosecution of anti-trust legislation was admirable. But apart from that, he perpetuated everything defeatist, defensive, and feckless in the corporate/neoliberal Democratic playbook. Restoring the integrity of the Department of Justice meant, to AG Garland, sparing Republicans from criminal accountability.
Hunter is, of course, aggrieved by Garland blowing up his settlement deal because of Republican fake outrage. But this is what we’ve seen from New Democrats over the past forty years: the minute the Republicans howl, they cave.
