Village Preservation informs us that there are no buildings currently being considered for landmark designation in NYC?
“At the current rate Mayor Mamdani will best Eric Adams as the mayor with the lowest rate of new landmark designations, in spite of the countless historic sites throughout NYC calling out for landmark designation.”
It may be because Mamdani is still somewhat surrounded by hacks from De Blasio’s administration; De Blasio began the process of dismantling the Landmarks Preservation Commission that was continued by Adams.
De Blasio and Adams were, of course, totally in the tank for the real estate community. Certainly it’s not a good look and it’s a totally anti-progressive policy for Mamdani to follow in their footsteps. Since, unlike them, he is not developer funded, why would he capitulate?
