Richard is always wonderfully helpful to researchers. He supplied me with a tape of his 1966 interview with Tallulah Bankhead when I was writing my biography. Back in the ’60s, he had a radio show on WBAI, “High Tea With –” whichever entertainment celebrity he was interviewing. He taped his interview with Tallulah in her apartment. When he told her the name of his show, the largely-incorrigible 64-year-old corrected him: “If you find any tea in THIS apartment, we’re going to smoke it!”
The first volume of his “Whatever Became Of?” book series had just appeared, a compilation of interviews with by-then frequently long-forgotten performers. Tallulah signed a photo to him: “Dear Richard, Thank you for NOT including me in your book!”
