Joel, I want to pass along this article from The Hill this morning. It takes the same view I’ve mentioned on a couple of occasions to you, namely that Trump is a sideshow to an agenda being implemented by Pense. As head of the transition team, he is the one who selected the cabinet — Trump just rubber stamped them. Ronald Reagan couldn’t have selected a more conservative group. Trump’s an outsider in DC — so are most of his advisers (by design). Pense is an insider charged with shepherding the legislative agenda. As such everyone must go through him if they want anything done. And please keep this in mind: if Trump fucks-up and must go – a real possibility – Pense takes over and continues without the distraction. I know it’s not possible for you or anyone on the left to think this way – given the visceral reaction to Trump – but if logic were to prevail you’d be hoping that Trump doesn’t screw up too badly.
