CLYBURN’S GLOSSARY OF PAI-SPEAK

which is pretty much standard GOP obfuscation.

Among my favorite of her takedowns is Pai’s accusation that the 1934 Communications Act is is a “relic of a bygone era.”

In reality, the Act “as amended,” is “Still in force,” Clybuirn notes. “Has not been repealed or declared unconstitutional.” And serves to protect consumer interests.

Pai’s is the same argument that Bill Clinton’s Wall Street friends made to successfully urge repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act, also put in place during the Depression. The result of that disinformation campaign was repeal, which in turn led to the financial meltdown of 2007-08.

Glass-Steagall was just a relic of a bygone era. It wasn’t chic enough. It only staved off national financial calamity.

Given everything that Pai is doing to foreclose democracy, it looks like for Pai the Constitution, too, is just the relic of a bygone era.
