THE OUTRAGEOUS ADVANCES PAID TO PENCE AND BARRETT

–both of whom are political operators & operatives who will lie their way through their manuscripts in order to provide cover for their wrong doing–is yet another confirmation of how the publishing business is driven not by editors, but by a small group of super agents who prey on the worst instincts of corporate publishers.

Penguin/Random House and Simon & Schuster should hang their heads.

AS IF WE DIDN’T KNOW HOW IMMORAL AND DEPRAVED TUCKER CARLSON IS

The Fascist hysteric declares support for George Floyd to be “an attack on civilization.”

Thank you Raw Story and Aaron Rupar for flagging–I can’t watch Fox “News” in real time.

WHICH PUBLISHER WAS STUPID ENOUGH TO PAY AMY CONEY BARRETT 2 MILLION?

Politico’s reporting doesn’t say.

ACADEMIA A SEAT OF BLINKERED AHISTORICITY

Cornel West and Jeremy Tate respond in the Washington Post to Howard University’s dissolving its classics department:

“Academia’s continual campaign to disregard or neglect the classics is a sign of spiritual decay, moral decline and a deep intellectual narrowness running amok in American culture. . .

The removal of the classics is a sign that we, as a culture, have embraced from the youngest age utilitarian schooling at the expense of soul-forming education.”

THANKS BUT NO THANKS

Council Member Rivera’s decision to reverse her campaign pledges and support De Blasio’s Tech Hub scam is one of the most egregious betrayals in NYC history.

Recently Rivera’s office sent a boilerplate thank you letter to constituent Lucille, who was having none of it.

“Do not thank me. I thank you. As you sold us out for greed from the real estate industry, I no longer will even think of contributing or voting or working for you ever again. Thanks for saving me time and money. Lucille, ex admirer.”

JIM JORDAN BITES ANKLE

When he’s not covering up sexual abuse or being complicit in treasonous insurrection, Rep. Jordan is snarling and yapping at anyone who wants to protect the public interest.

Today it was Dr. Fauci.

And Rep. Waters had the perfect response to Rep. Jordan:

Shut. Your. Mouth.

ICONIC, EMBLEMATIC, INDISPENSABLE–

and lots of fun: the silent film comedies of Reginald Denny.

Kino Video has just re-issued three stellar entries.

And Denny’s granddaughter, Kimberly Pucci, has written a biography: Prince of Drones: The Reginald Denny Story.

Denny’s career extended way into talkies and he was ace in drama as well.
And he had other talents as well, as referenced by the title of Pucci’s book.

NOT ENOUGH PUSHBACK AGAINST BOEHNER

Yes, I’ve read rebuttals to his absurd finger-pointing indulgences concerning Donald Trump and the infiltration of the GOP by apocalyptic lunacy.

But let’s not forget his jaw-dropping false equivalence equating the Tea Party with the Squad. Is he kidding?

THEY WANT TO TEAR DOWN THE SITE OF MY THEATRICAL DEBUT

I mean, this time the landlords and developers have gone too far!

But seriously–

the former 13th Street Theater, built as a private house nearly two centuries old, is almost the last nineteenth-century hold out remaining on 13th between Fifth and Sixth Avenues.

Even aside from my brother’s and my joint stage debut more than fifty years ago, it’s a very historic place.

The building is now endangered, and NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission is, of course, declining to extend it landmark designation, but that isn’t stopping the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation.

NEW PARADIGM NEEDED?

My reaction to the news that Kevin McKenzie is stepping down as ABT director–
and to the short list of reputed candidates —

Why has it become unwritten law that only a former principal dancer can direct a ballet company?

(No, I don’t think it should be a critic.)
