As Village Preservation reported in 2021, State Senator Hoylman-Sigal didn’t do nearly as much as he could have to stop the unadulterated plunder of our city engendered by that year’s infamous Soho-Noho-Chinatown upzoning hustle. 

Now Hoylman-Sigal has signaled his acquiescence to a developer-run city by advocating for the lifting of the FAR density cap and his CO-SPONSORING the Tech Bros bills to strip religious properties of landmark protection. 

I recently had a conversation with a staffer in Sen. Hoylman-Sigal’s office who insisted that lifting the density cap wouldn’t result in overiding height limits. He mansplained to me that I had it all wrong. In reality he wasn’t telling the truth, as I pointed out to him. When you lift the density restrictions in a city as logjammed as NYC, you have only one way to go–up.

Our pols think that we’re stupid.

Blistering cuts to our library system, and a windfall of deregulation for the developers who fund him.

In fact, it’s a developer dictated budget, in which local input over the current development frenzy is lessened further.

For shame.

Village Preservation disproves the canard that lifting all restraints on residential tower size is the answer to the housing crisis. 

“We’re building mostly expensive housing which many New Yorkers can’t afford, and losing existing affordable housing, including the nearly 120,000 units of rent regulated housing lost in NYC in just the three years between 2019 and 2022.”

City Hall has exploited the affordability crisis to give the developers who coerce, legally bribe, intimidate or cajole politician after politician just about everything they’ve always dreamed of. 

We have a affordable housing boondoggle crisis. It’s one of the biggest scams ever hatched in this city.

The Times polls are consistently wrong when it comes to domestic electoral politics, and consistently oversample Republicans.

They are, in the words of Joe Scarborough, “garbage.”

Instead of brown shirts, they wear Trump’s Star-Spangled, badly fitting drag.

And the Clinton White House that employed him reacted with fury. They did not want their neo-liberal fantasies exploded and exposed.

Reich, however, still believes that democracy can be saved from MAGA and the Republican party.

So pitch in as he solicits for his Inequality Media project.

Blanche and Neckeles let their greed and ambition tumble them into the Trump vortex.

Once-respected attorneys Todd Blanche and Susan Necheles have now decided to become enthusiastic carriers of Trump contagion. Blanche reportedly wants a high-level position in a second Trump administration. Guess he can’t wait to help Trump shred the Constitution. Trump marionette Necheles even tried to get Stormy to extoll Trump’s crowd size at their golf tournament. Blanche’s  and Necheles’s buffoonish requests for mistrial every time their Trump-initiated courtroom antics go astray compounds the stupid. Their reputations are shot. It didn’t take long.

Speaker Johnson put on one of his prosthetic facial expressions and threw down the gauntlet against this country yesterday as he vowed to place ex-President Trump above the law, making cl clear that  that will be his domestic policy priority this yeae,

That may leave him less time to attempt to destroy Medicare, Social Security, and Medicaid. Let’s be glad for small favors.

Then today he further clarified the GOP’s plan to steal the November election by insisting that “illegals” are voting despite presenting not a single speck of evidence to that effect.
