THE DAY THAT TRUMP IS ARRESTED

he will bellow out, “This proves that there is NO COLLUSION! NO OBSTRUCTION!” As he is led away in chains.

WE’VE GOT TO GET BETTER DEMOCRATS

Sen. Heitkamp’s vote for Pompeo is absolutely gross.

KEEP YOUR POWDER DRY

and your hiking sneakers close at hand. We may be marching soon, as the GOP continues its treasonous obstruction of justice by looking for ways to concoct an impeachment proceeding against Deputy AG Rosenstein, thus allowing Trump to appoint a poodle in place and shut down Mueller.

COMPLICITY

Rep. Schiff tweets: “When the dark chapter of the Trump presidency is written in the history books, the harshest criticism will be reserved for the GOP leadership in Congress, which put party over country and refused to defend our institutions and the rule of law when they were most at risk.”

McCONNELL IS FINE W/TRUMP FIRING MUELLER

Senator McConnell is really dirty. His only loyalty is to his campaign contributors and to maintaing his own power. His refusal to bring up for a vote a bill to protect Mueller tells us, once again, all we need to know about this man. And of course, McConnell is once again lying through his teeth about his reasons.

And please, if the Democrats ever regain control of the Senate, no talk about the need for bipartisanship. McConnell has killed that for the foreseeable future.

I’M ONLY TOO SURE HE DID

Directing The Blue Bird in then-Leningrad in 1974-75, George Cukor told Evgeni Shcherbakov he’d like to take him back to Los Angeles and put him in the movies, and/or something. Too bad Perestroika hadn’t yet happened and Genya couldn’t at least have availed himself of the being-in-the-movies part.

Genya has two dance duets with Valentina Gannibalova; they’re also in some ensemble scenes with the stars. If only for that, I love this movie, but I haven’t seen it in a long time and remember thinking it not the bomb that it was critically considered.

Genya had fun stories of Elizabeth Taylor, Ava Gardner, Jane Fonda from the shooting. I recall him recalling how Liz attended one performance of Gannibalova’s at the then-Kirov, and entertained royally in her box during intermissions.

TO ALLAY YOUR CONCERN

Beloved Reader: surely you’ve noticed that I placed “Dance Little Lady” in quotes, but not This Year of Grace. As you know, I rarely use quotations around titles; I mean, how many early AM minutes did I spend putting those little quotes around every single work-of-art title in my NY Sun reviews. So I’ve wielded my proprietary control over this blog by making the most of the chance to let that go. But I will put quotes around a title I think doesn’t stand out sufficiently from the text around it to be legible.

WHY I LOVED “DANCE LITTLE LADY” EVEN BEFORE I’D HEARD IT

Because in 1986 I purchased Charles Castle’s biography of set designer Oliver Messel, which has photos of the masks that Messel created for “Dance Little Lady,” when it was first heard as part of theLondon revue This Year of Grace. (Want to find out who choreographed it.)

Masks interest me, then as now. Masks in the psyche. Masks as artifacts. Masks used in theater. I had recently purchased as well Walter Sorrell’s The Other Face: The Mask in the Arts.

IS NIKKI HALEY HIGH, TOO?

With a perfectly straight face, she insists that the Syrian refugees whom Trump has so savagely defamed and rejected really don’t want to seek refuge on our shores.

Jon Swaine has a thing or to to say to that in the Guardian.

TRUMP IS TRAITOROUS THROUGH & THROUGH

Apparently, he sounded out his legal team about how groovy would the tail-wagging be if he bombed Syria.

So the Wall Street Journal reports [behind firewall].
