ONCE THE HYPE CLEARS

Turns out that Trump’s showing in Iowa was not nearly as strong as the corporate media–and of course, Trump’s entourage of flacks–wanted to claim.

AND I MEANT IT

I told the late Ellen Holly, when I interviewed her a year ago, that the fact that her role in 1959’s Take a Giant Step–I had seen it recently–didn’t lead to more movie roles and a career in Hollywood [no relation indeed!] was an indictment of that culture and community at that time. She’s wonderful in the film and looks gorgeous.

I also told her how I’d seen her in King Lear in Central Park when I was thirteen.  Unknown to me at the time, of course, behind-the-scenes maneuvering was going on that figures prominently in our biography of Diana Sands, as she and director John Berry agreed to close down Claudine to wait for James Earl Jones, who was starring as Lear with Holly as Regan in the Park.

Holly died last December 6, at age 92–she is a presence in our biography of Diana. We also highly recommend her memoir, One Life: The Autobiography of an African American Actress.

WHILE BIDEN’S OTHER CHEEK WAS TURNED

he allowed Trump’s sideshow to steal a march on the upcoming election.

No, it is not enough, as Biden and his manege have perhaps finally realized, for Biden to refer to “the former guy.” Half of America won’t even know who you’re talking about. The Democrats have operated for years under the delusion that all of America has two graduate degrees and reads Proust on a daily basis.

Speaking of on- a- daily- basis, Biden has to keep coming out swinging against Trump’s lies and defamation. That’s right, on a daily basis. It is not enough for Biden to give an impassioned speech every once in an eternity. If Biden is not up to it, then he has to pass the torch to Newsom.

DEVELOPERS’ TOOL GOV. HOCHUL

is back in the saddle trying to destroy New York City.

Once again, she’s proposing that the height limits on new development–which are already so ax that they’ve waved through a generation of monstrouly over built towers–be abolished altogether.

Go to Village Preservation’s web site and convey your objections to our elected officials.

TRUMP PLANNED A “FRIENDS, ROMANS,” etc. SIDESHOW

Judge Engoron wasn’t going to enable Trumpian stagecraft and insisted that Trump stay within the minimum boundaries of legal propriety. Once he did, Trump’s lights, cameras, and action instantly shut down.

KRISTEN WELKER PURRS AS REP. STEFANIK ESPOUSES TREASON

Welker couldn’t be bothered to correct Elise Stefanak when Rep. Stefanik issued a full-throated endorsement of treason by calling the January 6 domestic terrorists “hostages.”

And that was just for beginners. As Mary Trump writes,  Stefanik then “admitted on live television she will attempt another coup after the election if Biden wins – and she will use a string of lies to create her own ‘facts’ to justify her treason.”

Donald Trump has weaponized the corporate media’s faliure to protect America from Trump and the likes of Trump to convince his cult that any fact-acknowledging media is lying.

TRUMP WANTS TO JOIN BIDEN’S RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN

Apparently, the ex-president is very concerned about the danger of having a “mentally challenged president.”

THIS TIME, BIDEN HAS TO STAY FIRM

Pres. Biden’s capitulation to the GOP the last time they tried to take our country hostage over the debt ceiling was terrible.  Biden said he wouldn’t negotiate with the GOP’s economic terrorists, then he chose to negotiate with same, instead of taking his case to the American public, encouraging them to let their representatives know that they wouldn’t stand for the shakedown.  Then, after he’d given away the store, the GOP decided to renege on the deal anyway. Of course.  The GOP House caucus is made up of thieves and charlatans, and Biden should not even deign to legitimize them by entertaining the possibility of more spending cuts.
