BANNON/TRUMP IS WAY, WAY, WAY OVER THE LINE

Rep. Barbara Lee tweets: “Let me reiterate: White House is blacklisting outlets for printing the truth. This is chilling. Our bill of rights isn’t up for debate.”

BANNON BELONGS IN A STRAITJACKET

Instead, his fingers are on the levers of power.

As “Dartagnan” writes at Daily Kos:

“Bannon is a fanatic, a clear and present danger to the America we all know and care about. Unfortunately, his fanaticism, poured into the ear of someone as fundamentally incurious and vain as Donald Trump, brings us closer to the wholesale destruction of this country than any of us could have expected in our lifetimes.”

BANNON SPEWS PSYCHOSIS

Shares his vision at the CPAC event today, outlining the apocalypse he plans.

“If you look at these Cabinet appointees, they were selected for a reason, and that is the deconstruction.”

The “administrative state” he plans to destroy comprise the pillars of American democracy and thus the survival of a democratic America, as well as the survival of Planet Earth as a habitation for humans.

A DAY WITHOUT TRUMP

is like a month in the country at lilac time.

I was able to achieve a portion of such bliss Monday when I spent over six hours in a studio at the Rose Building watching as Mimi Paul and Edward Villella rehearsed their old roles in Bugaku with Maria Kowroski and Jared Angle, courtesy the Balanchine Foundation.

Then I conducted an interview with Paul and Villella about their experience with the ballet and about the coaching they’d done that day.

DESTROYING OUR ECONOMY AND OUR HUMANITY

The arts generate tremendous economic activity, so forget that bullshit about cost-saving (and of course what the Fed gives the arts are droplets in the bucket).

And as the Met Museum’s Thomas Campbell writes in the Times today:

“I fear that this current call to abolish the N.E.A. is the beginning of a new assault on artistic activity. Arts and cultural programming challenges, provokes and entertains; it enhances our lives. Eliminating the N.E.A. would in essence eliminate investment by the American government in the curiosity and intelligence of its citizens. As the planet becomes at once smaller and more complex, the public needs a vital arts scene, one that will inspire us to understand who we are and how we got here — and one that will help us to see other countries, like China, not as enemies in a mercenary trade war but as partners in a complicated world.”

But that might help prevent the war with China that Bannon wants so badly, might it not?

GHOST OF ANNE FRANK

to whom the United States denied immigration, as well as the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect, condemn Trump’s craven anti-Semitism, his mingy attempt to make us forgot that raging anti-Semite Steve Bannon is co-President.

Statement by Steven Goldenstein, Executive Director of the Anne Frank Center:

“The President’s sudden acknowledgement is a Band-Aid on the cancer of Antisemitism that has infected his own Administration. His statement today is a pathetic asterisk of condescension after weeks in which he and his staff have committed grotesque acts and omissions reflecting Antisemitism, yet day after day have refused to apologize and correct the record. Make no mistake: The Antisemitism coming out of this Administration is the worst we have ever seen from any Administration. The White House repeatedly refused to mention Jews in its Holocaust remembrance, and had the audacity to take offense when the world pointed out the ramifications of Holocaust denial. And it was only yesterday, President’s Day, that Jewish Community Centers across the nation received bomb threats, and the President said absolutely nothing. When President Trump responds to Antisemitism proactively and in real time, and without pleas and pressure, that’s when we’ll be able to say this President has turned a corner. This is not that moment.”

PERFECT DESCRIPTION

of Trump’s appointees and nominees, supplied by Laura Clawson at Daily Kos:

“rich people who think they’re doing the world a favor in agreeing to take on jobs they’re not qualified for.”

WAIT A MINUTE

I meant that the white working class receives the most from our totally inadequate safety net.

But it is the rich who receive the lion’s share of subsidy in today’s United States.

TRUMPS SPOUTS FAKE NEWS FROM ONE SIDE OF HIS MOUTH

and decries fake news from the other.

The fact that 9,000 people in Florida didn’t walk out tells us about the cult worship nature of much of his support. If people choose to suspend rationality, logic, truth so totally we can’t at this point do much about it. Creating policies that support the working class is one thing; explaining to the white working class that they receive more government aid than any other is one thing; correcting Trump’s lies is one thing.  Expecting that a cult can be easily deprogrammed is another.

But remember, only a quarter of the electorate actually voted for Trump.

THE SOULLESS, DEHUMANIZED AMERICA

that Trump and his Fascists want to create, in which the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities are “waste,” is one we need to fight like hell against.
