Now, I love Tebaldi singing “If I Loved You,” so if Fleming had gotten really operatic with those great songs she’s got that would have been OK, but nevertheless she reined herself in to no more than operetta-dimension amplitude.
Choreographer Justin Peck and/or director Jack O’Brien gave her some nifty wending around the stage, but since she can do everything–including speak lines with sufficient conviction and dexterity–why not have her twirl into a few more kinetic as well as vocal turns?
