We need to talk about the 60-story luxury condo that City Hall is insisting must be built immediately on city-owned just outside the perimeter of the Greenwich Village historic district, and by a private developer. This is despite the fact that it may include some kinda/sort “affordable” housing–the number of “affordable” units shrinking almost by the day–that will not be retained as “affordable” in perpetuity. This will be the tallest building north of the financial district and south of Gramercy Park. It is a direct aaffront to the GW historic district, which City Hall/the developers hate because it is so large and so iconic, and demonstrates the way a livable and vibrant city could be maintained. 

But in the meantime, there’s that hearing tonight at 75 Morton Street to discuss City Hall’s plan to demolish the landmarked Tony DaPalito Recreation Center on Carmine Street–another front in their assault on Greenwich Village.

This disgusting fraud is at the forefront of the Republicans’ effort to defend every illegal and immoral act by Trump-Musk.

The Democrats need to frame this for what it is: Rep. Mace and her colleagues support Musk-Trump’s illegal cessation of aid to starving people around the world, and their destruction of our national security by dismantling USAID funding for guarding Al-Quaida prisoners, et. al.

The Republican caucus  has now announced that it is all in, to a man and woman, on the treasonous coup launched by Trump and Musk.

The Trump-Musk coup is the logical and inevitable culmination of Ronald Reagan’s attacks on democracy and self-government, inciting Americans to believe that democracy is actually tyranny.
