OUR ENEMIES WITHIN

Are the right-wing plutocratics who hatched a slow-acting coup as a backlash against democracy and the gains for social justice achieved during the 1960s.

As John Atcheson timelines at Common Dreams, the coup was designed “to completely change the cultural and philosophical assumptions underpinning the nature of our Republic, the principles it was founded upon, and the role of corporations in society.”

Their takeover of the media is now almost complete: “Three trends—the death of net neutrality, scuttling FCC rules limiting cross media ownership in local markets, and the culmination of two decades of mergers will leave citizens a press of, by, and for the corporations.”

OH, I GET IT

Trump is really exempting Fox from his poll because he wants to know which is the SECOND fakest news source.

A NEW STRING TO THE KOCHS’ BOW

Heaven help us — they’re now investing in media as part of their grand scheme to overthrow American demoocracy.

THIMBLE RIGGING FROM TRUMP

He wants a FAKE NEWS contest in which Fox is exempted —

but Fox is just about the fakest of them all.

But it’s good at licking his boots.

The President grows more demented by the day.

THE “MAINSTREAM” MEDIA WON’T GET REAL

Their calling Mick Mulvaney a “fiscal hawk” is like calling Steve Bannon a “populist.”

Like a pirhana, Mulvaney goes after any spending that benefits working Americans. That’s when he chomps his vicious little jaws. Otherwise, he’s fine with the military-industrial complex boondoggle, the endless deficit-busting showers of corporate welfare and plutocratic entitlements.

ELIZABETH WARREN BETTER PUT ON HER COMBAT BOOTS

and take a posse down to the CFPB on Monday to ensure that, as mandated by law, the Deputy Director becomes Acting Director and the GOP does not get to do a replay of its theft of the Supreme Court seat.

TRUMP NEVER HAD A POPULIST AGENDA

As evidenced by every step he’s taken, mostly likely his grotesque tweeting that the poor, pitiful financial institutions need to be protected from the CFPB.

Trump and the GOP Establishment’s agenda are perfectly in sync, and so, Steve Bannon, there is no need for your crew of hand-picked degenerate criminals to run, is there?

ANTI-AMERICAN ZEALOT MICK MULVANEY

He is indeed a sad, sick joke. Btw, that’s the way Mulvaney characterized the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that he will now lead if Trump has his way.

Vulpine Mulvaney hates anything that prevents the American people from being exploited.

Therefore, he’s perfect for Trump and the GOP. And they couldn’t care less that installing the Mulvaney monster violates the law stating that deputy director of the CFPB becomes acting director if the director leaves.

It’s just one more broken law in White House Inc.’s rampage on America.

CLYBURN’S GLOSSARY OF PAI-SPEAK

which is pretty much standard GOP obfuscation.

Among my favorite of her takedowns is Pai’s accusation that the 1934 Communications Act is is a “relic of a bygone era.”

In reality, the Act “as amended,” is “Still in force,” Clybuirn notes. “Has not been repealed or declared unconstitutional.” And serves to protect consumer interests.

Pai’s is the same argument that Bill Clinton’s Wall Street friends made to successfully urge repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act, also put in place during the Depression. The result of that disinformation campaign was repeal, which in turn led to the financial meltdown of 2007-08.

Glass-Steagall was just a relic of a bygone era. It wasn’t chic enough. It only staved off national financial calamity.

Given everything that Pai is doing to foreclose democracy, it looks like for Pai the Constitution, too, is just the relic of a bygone era.

THE LONG CLINTON HANGOVER

Josh Barro at Business Insider speculates on what might have been: “if the Clintons had agreed to go off into a normal post-presidency instead of holding Democrats hostage in an emotionally abusive relationship for 16 more years, or if Democratic voters had insisted that they do so — that would have been decidedly more convenient for the party.

“There would probably be a Democratic president right now — maybe even a female one.”
